Somewhere only we know....

5.30am,destination here...

No, we hadn't swapped allegiance;we were heading to Arsenal's Emirates stadium for the auditions for X factor 2007 (along with a few thousand other people).

The stadium was impressive - I thought St Mary's was big, but this place was just awesome - apologies for the Americanism but that is what it was!

We joined the queue, fascinated by all the other people of all ages, shapes and sizes who also joined it. It didn't take too long to move inside and after a brief security and paper work check, we moved up to holding area 'D' - there were 6 holding areas. Each holding area had 70 contestants and there were 3 sessions that day apparently...over a thousand people being auditioned on one day and already they were on day 4 for London with more next week. So add on the auditions in Belfast,Manchester, Glasgow, Dublin etc etc and that's quite a few people who reckon they are the next Leona Lewis!(Whatever happened to...)

The British love queueing..

Sadly we weren't allowed to take photos inside the audition set-up, shame really as it would have been fun to have a full record of the day. After a bit of hanging around, a few announcements by one of the producers told us what we had expected that Mr Simon Cowell and the main judges were NOT there and that our judges for the day were TV and record producers. Dan then went off with all the other contestants for a major photo shoot-they were filming shots for the opening titles of the programme. Dan said he was at the front for some of it so hopefully he will be on TV!

All the time while we were waiting for Dan's number to be called there were numerous TV cameras and producers going around filming and interviewing contestants. We were picking out the ones that would be recalled for the next auditions either through pure talent or for the fact that they really didn't have the X factor. One such family were the 'Lookers' - a nickname given by us as they obviously were not being sponsored by Denplan judging by the state of their teeth!!!! Sure enough, they were interviewed ( a young girl of about 14) and sure enough she was given a red letter, her passport to the next round. Will definitely look out for her in the next series!

Well, imagine our surprise, when a few minutes later, Daniel was approached by a producer, camera in hand and asked for an interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was so nervous doing the interview after being so calm about singing, but credit to him, he managed! They seemed to be chatting to quite a few of the younger age group.

Dan(No. 4228) was soon called after this for his audition (accompanied by his Mum as chaperone!!). Only one judge to perform to...and he gave it his all. He sang Somewhere only we know , a Keane song and sang it well too - a proud Mum!
Sadly, he wasn't put through to the next round but was given much encouragement by the judge.
Dan is now just waiting to send off his form for next year!
We had a fantastic day....roll on the start of the series.....
