Bring back Ski Sunday..

You could have heard David Vine in the background introducing the Worley Slalom team...

We had a day at the Rainbow Ski Area, just less than 2 hours away from where we are staying. We had been trying to get up there since Friday, but the weather on the mountain had forced the ski field to be closed. However, at 7am on Tuesday it was all systems go...packing up a change of clothes for the inevitable falls, collecting the snow chains and then on up the mountain road. We were glad of the chains, it was pretty scary and I was very glad to get to the top!(and I was only a passenger, but I wasn't very good at looking down!)

The view at the top was just awesome..that horrible phrase again, but nothing else could describe it. I had forgotten how stunning a ski resort is, especially as we were blessed with bright blue skies and perfect sunshine.

Dan decided to have a snowboard lesson and Cameron and I opted for a beginner's ski lesson. Now, I am not a beginner at skiing, but as it is 20 years since since I last graced the slopes, I might well have been! The lady at the desk just said it was like riding a bike...but she has never seen me ride a bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hamish was our instructor for the hour and a half lesson and what a patient chap he was. It did come back to me after about half an hour and soon Cam and I were both doing snow-plough turns down the intermediate slope. It was superb. Dan too made it to the big slope as well and managed to stay upright..more than I could do on one board.

It was sad when we had to stop, but I never thought we would manage skiing as part of our itinerary. We all got such a buzz out of it and walked away without major injury, just a few aches and pains the next morning.
