Pancake rocks

Today we arrived on the West Coast of New Zealand. a very different sight to the calm beaches in the north of the South Island. It was very rugged and rough. The seas were spectacular..if only it was summer and we could have gone in!

Our first stop was a place called Punakaiki which is famous for its Pancake rocks. They are layer upon layer of rocks in various formations. It is still a bit of a mystery how they have been formed. There are blowholes where, when the tide is high(cue a song?) and the water is rough, the sea shoots up in the air and is really spectacular. Well it looked it on the postcard!! Sadly it was calm when we went and the tide was low so we had to make do with this. A bit of imagination though and you could see what it would be like!

And so as the water couldn't produce the sight we wanted to see, we did a bit of improvisation......
....you see the watershould come up like this!!!!!!
